ARLA is urging member agents to have their say in a consultation exercise being mounted by the Scottish Government as part of its proposals to extensively reform the private rented sector.

The Housing (Scotland) Act 2014 received Royal Assent on August 1, making provision for the introduction of a Letting Agent Code of Practice.

Separately - but not within the act - the Scottish Government recently launched a consultation on a proposed New Tenancy for the Private Sector', as reported on Letting Agent Today.

The proposed reforms are designed to modernise the tenancy agreement and improve security of tenure for tenants whilst preserving the rights of landlords, tenants and investors.

ARLA is collating agents' views on the propose Code of Practice and New Tenancy agreement and ensuring that the Scottish Government listen it says.

Responses to the consultation are required by December 28 and the Code of Practice must be presented to Scottish ministers by February 2015.

ARLA is holding consultation meetings for members in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness, Aberdeen and Stirling - if you want to get involved, contact Daryl McIntosh at darylmcintosh@arla.co.uk or call 07714 520875.
