The average cost of renting a room in the UK stood steady at £546 per month in October according to website spareroom.co.uk.
This breaks down to £328 per month in Northern Ireland (up from £327 a year ago), £356 in Wales (up one per cent) and £449 in Scotland (up seven per cent).
Looking at the regions in England, the average rent in the East Midlands is £383 (up two per cent year on year) and £385 in the West Midlands (up three per cent).
In the south of England rents average at £462 in the south east and £407 in the south west (both increasing three per cent year on year).
Rents in the north east and north west have increased three per cent to £364 and four per cent to £375 respectively.
Both inner and outer London have also seen an annual increase of four per cent to £705 and £526.
