An alleged fraudster who conned tenants out of £380 by pretending to be the landlord of a vacant property is awaiting sentence.

Chesterfield magistrates' court heard that Curtis Hood, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, pretended to be the owner of a vacant Bolsover council property in Derbyshire.

Hood is reported to have advertised the property for rent on Gumtree. The couple - one of which was a heavily-pregnant woman - viewed the property paid £380 in what they assumed was rent. The couple were also taken to a carpet shop by Hood, who said he would buy a new carpet for the property.

The couple moved in but discovered the con when a Bolsover council staff member visited and explained the home was owned by the authority.

The Derbyshire Times reports that Hood, who works for a furniture company as a fabricator, admitted to police he had spoken to the couple and taken their money after claiming to be the landlord of the property and had agreed carpets would also be provided.

The case resumes today.

Exactly what he deserves! Definitely not worth it for 380. He has no excuse for what he's done.
