As my last article for Industry Views this year I thought I would suggest ten possible New Year's resolutions for conveyancers and estate agents.
Obviously some are tongue in cheek, and will hopefully be taken in the spirit intended, but there may be one or two, on both sides, that if adopted could make 2015 a more harmonious year. Please feel free to add to both lists
Conveyancers
Not to have long lunches and play golf on a Friday
Not to raise unnecessary enquiries about 20 year old extensions
Not to send mail by post when email will suffice
To return phone calls in a timely fashion
To remain open all day from at least 9.00 am to 5.30 pm
To stop moaning about how much estate agents charge
To pay the agent's commission promptly
Not to carry out conveyancing unless it is your full-time area of law
Not to make the transaction a personal battle between you and the other conveyancer
To be nicer to estate agents!
Estate Agents
Not to sales chase conveyancers on a Friday morning
Not to ask if the searches are back if you don't know what searches are
Not to request unfairly high referral fees
To stop wearing white socks, and gallons of hair gel
To stop earning more than conveyancers for less responsibility
Not to suggest quick completion dates just to suit your targets
To make sure you are in possession of a key on completion
Not to expect the conveyancer to turn a blind eye' to a legal problem
Not to suggest that a conveyancer's existing client goes to your pet' firm
To be nicer to conveyancers!
Have a great Christmas and a prosperous New Year
