Bolton King's muted welcome for kitemark scheme

NFoPP chief executive Peter Bolton King has broken his silence about the new kitemark scheme proposed by agents.
SAFEagent, which will show the public which agents have client money protection, will launch before the end of April.
It has been unequivocally welcomed only by NALS so far. NFoPP ha until now said nothing and the RICS, which has also kept quiet, is understood to be unhappy with it.
Bolton King said: “We have not got a problem in principle with something like this. However, we knew about it only 24 hours before a meeting with CLG where it was discussed.
“The problem we have with it is that it doesn’t inform the consumer about the differences in the three schemes available – NFoPP, RICS and NALS.
“And surely this is all part of belonging to one of those organisations, and surely the way forward is for each of those organisations to promote their own scheme?
“We also have concerns that consumers will be confused by yet another logo.
“However, I quite agree that consumers should be told about client money protection.”

NFOPP is an umbrella organisation for four autonomous trade associations ARLA, NAEA, ICBA, and NAVA whihc many forget.
ARLA has rolled out their licensing scheme very effectively and NAEA is to folow suit on 1 July. NAEA is more than happy to to liaise with consumer groups such as CAB and Which and to stand up and be counted. That's why they too have brought in licensing for members who qualify to use that title. It's called raising the standards - and it will! The NAEA MAF Meeting yesterday |

Hang on.....the NFoPP are worried about confusing people with different names and logos????
I am surely not the only one to spot the irony here! If the NFoPP are for the consumer (which they seem determined to be) then surely it is not about what svheme is attached to whom but simply what schemes out there offer security and confidence. |

For heavens sake - its so simple. SAFE means just that - SAFE - Insured - covered.
NAEA, NFoPP, ARLA, NALS, RICS....... TPO, OFT, Guilds, associations, clubs, Institutions, How the hell can a landlord or tenant be expected to know who offers what? Amazing - all these expert regulators who sit in judgement, yet ultimately, its a group of agents who come up with an idea that cuts through all the posturing and competitiveness. |

Ok - so who does? Where can I find details? Certainly nowhere on NFoPP or RICS websites. At least this idea shows that the is some form of insurance. As it stands, these organisations appear in competition with each other rather than championing standards and the consumer. |

Really? Confusion over ONE logo? I would be more confused by a manager in an office with NAEA logo where the Directors weren't members and dint have any insurance. Why can't they just support a good idea rather than fault it because the idea wasn't theirs? |

Yet more 'faffing' by the NFoPP.
The problem is that they have FAILED to inform and educate the general puplic of the benifits that membership etc. etc. of the Association brings to them. Property Live too. Some agents do so, but where is the central effort, coupled with a membership requirement for all members to advertise on everthing. Time is short! |

They have had years to do this and havent. Who has ever of NFoPP outside the business? Now someone else comes up with a good idea - suddenly they say that is what they should be doing. |

Agree with the sentiment - just a shame that the NFoPP seem incapable of doing this.... I must pay more attention next time to the NFoPP accounts and see exactly how much is spent on such promotions and how much on paying the rent and salaries at Head Office. |
