The Residential Landlords Association has withdrawn a '10 Top Tips' list, apparently circulated to landlords seeking new tenants, following the revelation that one of the suggestions was to service a tenant with notice to quit on the first day they moved in.

The list also included a suggestion that prospective tenants who move into private rented accommodation directly from living with their parents often ... become a problem. Another tip recommended landlords to weigh up the merits or otherwise of a potential tenant by making an unexpected visit to where they live now - that way you can see how they look after the property and conbfirm they actually live there.

There was a social media backlash when the RLA publicised its early last week, leading to the association's Twitter account rapidly responding with the tweet: #Top10tips withdrawn. Admission of cock-up reflects inappropriate advice. No longer reflects law or RLA policy. Thanks to all & apologies.

The RLA says the problem came from its marketing team re-publicising old and out-of-date editorial.

The association has replaced the offending list with a more up-to-date list.

Another example of this PC world....the RLA are perfectly correct and stating the facts....but we are not allowed to say it these days.
