Labour's Stella Creasy has returned to Twitter to continue her war against lettings agents' fees levied on tenants.

Earlier this week Letting Agent Today reported how Creasy, Labour's candidate in Walthamstow, was in a long-running and harshly-worded war of tweets with Eric Walker of Northwood lettings agency.

This has now resumed with a recent tweet from Creasy saying: "Being attacked by letting agents 4 daring 2 suggest their biz model has structural probs 4 consumers - why labour would ban fees!"

The online argument was joined again by Eric Walker and property commentator Kate Faulkner and this time by east London letting and estate agency Base Property.

On one occasion Creasy, having been told why fees are charged, went on to liken letting agents to loan sharks with the tweet: "Of course arguing everyone does it so not problematic [is] not strongest point #sodidloansharks."

Creasy won publicity some weeks ago for nominating the best and worst agents in her Walthamstow constituency, giving awards - and brickbats - as appropriate.

However, the latest Twitter spat took an unexpected turn when Eric Walker tweeted that "The agent Ms Creasy voted as best in Walthamstow charges tenants a £500 non refundable reservation fee." Creasy appeared not to respond to that specific point.

The exchange of tweets ended when Creasy said she was to hold a meeting on the subject of agents' fees in Walthamstow on April 15. It seems likely the candidate's crusade against letting agents may resume then.

I think many letting agents miss the point. It is not the fees that tenants object to but the obscene amounts that some agents charge. This together with the utter contempt that some agents treat their tenants has created this maelstrom. Agents have only themselves to blame.
You forget that Generation Rent is a growing minority.

Sorry but this woman is a tit who has NO understanding of the lettings market. WE CANNOT do work for nothing! I would love to see her exposed as another MP ripping off expenses or getting caught in a sting offering access for cash then - hopefully - she will stop her stupid ramblings which are based on a total misunderstanding of the PRS !

What the hell surely this creasy person should be dealing with matters more pressing the Agents in her area sounds she has a personal vendetta against agents perhaps she has paid fees and regrets it, if she wants to free tenants of paying fees then Im sure her Landlords in her area would be ok to pay the agents the difference (NOT) perhaps the end goal is to read her area of all rental properties and alienate herself from everyone, after all it is news and gets in the public limelight however, I think for the wrong personal reasons, daft woman
