A lettings agent jailed for setting fire to three cars has now been banned from the profession for life by the Office of Fair Trading.

James Starr, 34, was sentenced to five years by a judge at Reading Crown Court in 2011 after being convicted of three counts of arson.

Now Starr, who has subsequently been released from jail, has been banned in what OFT assistant director Mike Coates says is a reminder to all estate agents that by engaging in acts involving violence, they are likely to face a ban from the profession.

Starr, who worked for RB Estates in Reading, was the subject of a special investigation by the OFT. The Office's ban concludes with the statement: The OFT, working together with local authority trading standards services, will continue to act robustly to protect the interests and safety of consumers.
