Who are you and what does it say on your business card?

My name is Jon Notley and I am the co-founder and CEO of Zero Deposit™.

What is Zero Deposit and what does it do?

We operate the U.K.’s only FCA regulated deposit replacement guarantee. Our market leading product reduces the upfront cost of renting and helps people to move faster.

What services do you offer and in what ways do you work with estate and letting agents?

We work with over 2,600 UK letting agent offices who distribute the Zero Deposit Guarantee, getting all of the “faster renting” benefits but also earning commission for every successful introduction.

What makes your product different and how does it benefit agents?

The main difference is that it is underwritten by one of the world’s largest reinsurers, giving agents and landlords additional peace of mind, knowing the product has serious financial backing. This is particularly important at the moment with the unknown threat of the coronavirus, and who knows what else lurking around the corner. Our product and business are regulated by the FCA, so there is additional protection under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme and the Financial Ombudsman Service.

There are a number of providers in our market, but most seem to be offering unregulated products that do not come with these protections. We believe that this is the reason that the majority of agents who are offering deposit replacement have selected the Zero Deposit Guarantee.

What is your greatest achievement in your current role and what made it so special?

Attracting so many industry leading firms to bring Zero Deposit to market is our biggest achievement. From Acorn Group, Connells, Countrywide, Foxtons, Knight Frank, LSL, Munich Re, TDS and many others; our network is full of top quality firms. Despite the negative coverage agents get in the media, to see so many embracing the protection offered under FCA regulation clearly demonstrates the level of professionalism and diligence that exists in our industry.

What is the most satisfying part of your job?

Working with our team to grow and develop the business.

What do you see as the biggest challenge facing estate and letting agents at the moment?

Keeping up with the relentless changes to legislation and technology, while keeping focused on the basics of what makes a great agency business.

What is your property prediction for the remainder of 2020?

More landlords will leave the market than will enter.

Country house or city apartment?

Country house and fresh air.

Trendy roof terrace or traditional English garden?

Really depends on the mood and weather, but nothing trendy!

Would you rather be a free-moving tenant or settled owner occupier?

Settled please!

What is your favourite room in your home?

I love my kitchen.

Homes under the Hammer or Location, Location, Location?

Phil & Kirstie all the way…
