Who are you and what does it say on your business card?
I’m Bruce Evans, Chief Commercial Officer at RentGuarantor. The title might sound corporate, but in practice I’m involved in everything from long-term strategy to helping agents solve day-to-day problems.
I’ve been in the property sector for over 30 years, working across the high street and corporate sides of agency, but honestly, the most exciting thing I’ve worked on is what we’re building at RentGuarantor — because it’s tackling a real need, in a sector I care about deeply.
When I’m not doing that, I’m usually watching Arsenal — often with hope, sometimes with despair.
What is RentGuarantor and what does it do?
RentGuarantor helps people secure rental homes when they don’t have a personal guarantor — including students, gig workers, benefit recipients, and professionals relocating from abroad. These tenants aren’t high-risk; they’re simply overlooked by a system that wasn’t built for them.
We’ve built a digital-first professional guarantor service — trusted by over 1,700 letting agents, universities, and housing providers — that’s supported more than 5,000 tenancies and delivers quick decisions, legal protection, and human support where it matters most.
We step in where others can’t, providing tenants with access and landlords with peace of mind — including up to £120,000 in guaranteed rent and £10,000 in legal protection.
How do you work with letting agents, and what do they get out of it?
We make life easier for letting agents. That’s the simple answer.
Agents refer tenants to us when a personal guarantor isn’t available — and we take care of the rest. The process is fast, fully digital, and designed to keep things moving. There’s no cost to the agent, and they can choose to offer their tenants a discount or take a revenue share.
RentGuarantor helps reduce fall-throughs, speeds up the lettings process, and assists in protecting landlords from financial risk — all without adding complexity for letting agents. We’re not asking agents to do more; we’re helping them move deals forward, faster.
What makes RentGuarantor different — and why does it matter?
I’ve seen plenty of businesses that just digitise outdated processes. What we’ve done is rethink the whole guarantor experience from the ground up.
We’ve built a platform that’s designed to scale — but also built to care.
From our dynamic pricing engine and automated verification tools to the human support behind every case, it’s all about removing barriers without removing people from the process.
That balance of speed and empathy is why letting agents trust us to deliver. It’s also why tenants — many of whom have been rejected elsewhere — see us as their way in.
What’s your proudest achievement in the role so far?
Helping the business grow while staying true to its mission. We’ve helped thousands of tenants secure the homes they need. And we’ve made life easier for agents and landlords — delivering protection, reducing delays, and simplifying the process.
Building trust at scale is hard. Doing it in a way that’s also fair, transparent, and genuinely impactful? That’s what I’m most proud of.
What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Seeing everything come together. When a tenant gets approved, a landlord is covered, and the agent moves on to the next let without a hitch — that’s satisfying.
Working with a team that’s sharp, committed, and often quite funny helps too. This is a business that takes what it does seriously — without taking itself too seriously.
What’s the biggest challenge facing agents today?
Administration and compliance continue to pile up — but the expectations haven’t dropped. Agents are being asked to do more, with fewer resources and still deliver great service.
That’s why support from services like ours is no longer a ‘nice to have.’ It’s essential infrastructure. We reduce friction, cut time to let, and de-risk the process — all without adding to the agent’s workload.
What’s your property prediction for the rest of 2025?
More flexibility, more pressure, and more demand for fairness. The old ways of excluding tenants based on arbitrary criteria won’t last — and rightly so.
I also think agents will lean more into tech-enabled partnerships that give them speed and control without sacrificing professionalism. That’s the direction things are heading, and we’re proud to be part of that shift.
Country house or city apartment?
Country house. I like space — for ideas, for thinking, and for getting outside of the day-to-day.
Trendy roof terrace or traditional English garden?
Give me the garden. Bit of grass, a decent chair, and no one trying to sell me craft beer for £9.
Free-moving tenant or settled owner occupier?
At this stage? Settled owner. I’ve done the moving. Now I like knowing where the kettle is.
Favourite room in your home?
The kitchen. Always the kitchen. That’s where the proper conversations happen — and where the coffee is.
Homes under the Hammer or Location, Location, Location?
I’d have to go with Grand Designs. There’s something brilliant about watching people chase the dream — even if it means living in a caravan for two winters and arguing over A-frame trusses.
