A letting agent is warning of apparently inaccurate information being sent out as part of a new agent and landlord accreditation system.

Rent Smart Wales is the first initiative created by the House (Wales) Act 2014 – the first ever housing legislation introduced by the devolved Cardiff-based government. 

Rent Smart Wales is a compulsory registration and licensing scheme for private rented sector landlords and letting and management agents. It means agents and landlords will need to undertake training to obtain a licence, and have their properties registered. 

But Ross Hooper-Nash, director of Cardiff agency JeffreyRoss, claims that there has been some misinformation in the publicity surrounding the announcement of the scheme.

“I have encountered marketing emails promoting factually incorrect information” he says.

“There has been mention that licensed agents must be part of professional body ARLA to be able to manage properties or have a Client Money Protection policy in place. But this is simply not the case and neither are part of the policy” suggests Hooper-Nash.

“It is a shame to see this information being sent out as it is misinforming and just aggressive marketing” he says.
