Fine of over £6,000 because of "untidy" private rental properties

A landlord has been fined £6,160 by St Helens magistrates after he admitted failing to tidy up two properties he owned.

The court heard how the man had failed to comply with two Section 215 notices (Untidy Land/Property Notices) served by St Helens Council under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

The notices had ordered him to tidy up and improve the external appearance of the two neighbouring houses.

The defendant, who was found guilty in his absence, had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

He was also ordered to pay court charges of £150, costs of £80 and a victim surcharge of £120.

Council officers will now ensure compliance with the notices.
