Here’s the letter outlining legal challenge to Osborne’s buy to let tax change

The two landlords mounting a legal challenge to the mortgage interest tax changes proposed by Chancellor George Osborne have released a copy of a letter sent by the campaign’s legal advisers to the government.

Steve Bolton and Chris Cooper are arguing for a review of section 24 of the Finance (No. 2) Act 2015 – which includes the proposed restriction of mortgage interest tax relief at a basic rate, even for higher rate-paying landlords.

The 12-page document, which can be downloaded here, is formally called the Pre-Action Protocol for Judicial Review and requests for a response within 14 days of it being sent – and that period ends tomorrow.

The campaign’s objections to the proposal, already extensively covered on Letting Agent Today, are set out in sections four and five.

The letter comes from Omnia Strategy LLP, the legal firm headed by Cherie Blair QC.
