Seventy nine per cent of tenants are happy with their circumstances according to a survey conducted by the National Landlords’ Association ā giving the lie, perhaps, to the image of private sector tenants being put upon by agents and landlords.
The poll found that 83 per cent of renters in the East Midlands said they are satisfied with their landlord. Tenants in the North West and South West were jointly second on the list, with 82 per cent satisfaction.
The NLA says its findings emerge as the latest English Housing Survey, published by the Department for Communities and Local Government, shows that average private sector tenancies now last four years.
A stark regional difference in satisfaction exists on either side of the Pennines.
Eighty two per cent of tenants in the North West are satisfied with their landlord compared to 67 per cent of tenants in the North East – the lowest satisfaction rate in the whole of the England.
On average across all regions, 79 per cent are satisfied with their landlord.
“Private renting is far from the insecure, uncertain and unhappy picture that it is often made out to be, and these findings will help to reassure existing renters and those looking to make their home in the private sector. However, it doesn’t help the minority of tenants who are dissatisfied” says Richard Lambert, chief executive officer at the NLA.
