Short term boost but long term dip in lettings, warns Agency Express

Todays other news

Latest data from board company Agency Express suggests that last month’s lull in the lettings market was short lived – although year-on-year supply remains down.

National figures for June for properties ‘Let’ saw a significant increase sitting at 9.6 per cent while new listings ‘To Let’ rose by 1.8 per cent.

Seven of the 12 UK regions recorded by Agency Express reported increases in new listings ‘To Let’ and 10 recorded increases in properties ‘Let’.

The North East, East Midlands, London, Yorkshire and South East were the stand out regions showing the largest rise in ‘To Lets’. London, the South West and Yorkshire were the top ‘Let By’ increasing regions.

The largest declines reported in this month’s index was in Central England, where properties ‘To Let’ fell for a second consecutive month – a drop of 5.9 per cent.

Stephen Watson, Agency Express managing director, is cautious however. “Year-on-year national figures are down. As we move in to July, traditionally a buoyant month, it will be interesting to see if the market picks up or continues at the same pace” he says.
