The investigation also highlights a number of properties said to be in very poor condition, but still being let out to tenants – some of which, in addition, have allegedly had their deposits stolen.

In some cases, some landlords are described as taking over derelict properties, let it out illegally including taking substantial up-front deposits, and then neglecting to improve the properties. One landlord is said to be the subject of 17 trading standards cases.
