Industry to get behind Gas Safety Week 2016

Todays other news

The property industry is set to pledge its support to Gas Safety Week 2016, which starts today.

The sixth annual event aims to raise awareness among landlords and homeowners about the importance of having their gas appliances serviced every year.

Organisations across the UK will be working together alongside the Gas Safe Register to raise awareness of the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances, which can lead to gas leaks, fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.

Over 6,500 organisations across the UK have already signed up to take part in this year’s event, beating last year’s total of 5,123.

Firms that pledge support to the campaign will be emailed a free toolkit which includes images, gas safety information, social media updates and a press release kit.

Any business that supported the event last year will automatically have been sent a free toolkit this year.

Much of the campaign now takes place on social media and the organisers of the event have created a ‘Thunderclap‘ which sends a pre-written message of support from various platforms.

The event’s official hashtag is #GSW16 and you can follow @GasSafetyWeek on Twitter.

Estate agency software supplier VTUK is one property firm supporting the event.

It’s giving away hundreds of radiator and meter box keys in order to spread the message about gas safety.

The keys can be used by letting agents, engineers or tenants should they need to bleed a radiator or access their meter box.

“Gas safety is a crucial part of managing a property and it’s something every agent or landlord should be aware of,” says Peter Grant, managing director of VTUK.

“That’s why we’re spreading the message by joining Gas Safety Week.”

You can request a free key on VTUK’s Facebook page.
