Stand by: E4 commissions TV comedy about … a lettings agency

Todays other news

Unlikely as it seems one of Channel 4’s digital networks, E4, has commissioned a comedy series based in … a lettings agency.

Don’t expect it to be a light-hearted look at the stress and workload of a diligent agent. Instead the star – Jamie Demetriou – describes his letting agent character as “dodgy” and “an imbecile.”

The fictitious agency is set in north London and the agent himself  – called Stath – will be based in a firm called Michael & Eagle Lets, run by his father.

“It’s a real family affair as equally inept Sophie, Stath’s sister, is also employed there on continual work experience. Stath has big ambitions to take over the family business one day, but is hampered by his general ability and overall personality. In modern, overcrowded London, the business of finding tenants to rent flats should be pretty easy, but Stath makes it a struggle” say the production notes for the show.

There’s no date yet for transmission but the six part series will be shown at some point in 2017.

Demetriou says: “Stath is an imbecile. I hope the only thing I have in common with him is a love of Euro RnB [music].”
