Details revealed of next month's anti-buy to let tax change rally

More details have emerged of the campaign rally to be held next month in support of the bid for a judicial review of George Osborne’s restrictions on landlords’ mortgage interest tax relief.

For some months now two landlords have been fundraising and campaigning to highlight what they claim to be the injustice of Clause 24 of the Finance (no. 2) Act 2015, which contains the tax change initially unveiled by Osborne last summer.

Steve Bolton and Chris Cooper oppose the proposed restriction of mortgage interest tax relief at a basic rate, even for higher rate-paying landlords, and should know in the neart future whether their call for a judicial review has been agreed.

If it goes ahead it will be led for the landlords by Omnia Strategy LLP, the law practice headed by Cherie Blair QC.

The campaign is staging a London rally on June 9 and speakers are now known to include David Smith, policy director at the Residential Landlords Association - a body which is also undertaking some research to assist the campaign - as well as Matt Hutchinson of online accommodation sharing service SpareRoom.

The campaign has also engaged Westbourne Communications, a PR firm, to promote the campaign in terms of “advocacy, awareness, engagement and campaigning.”
