NALS launches free online electrical safety course for letting agents

A new free online course has been launched to help letting agents understand the importance of regular electrical safety checks.

The Electrical Installation Safety course was created by a trade association, the National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers, in collaboration with the National Approved Letting Scheme.

The course focuses on giving those involved in letting accommodation in the private sector the knowledge necessary to comply with legal obligations and ensure appropriate electrical checks are conducted for their premises.

It includes guidance on the different regulatory requirements in England, Scotland and Wales, considers industry best practice when it comes to periodic electrical inspections and provides valuable tips to help landlords conduct their own simple visual checks.

“NALS are committed to ensuring excellence in the private rented sector. Giving letting agents the tools to successfully navigate the sometimes complex legal landscape that governs the private rented sector is essential in this regard. We provide more than 45 of these bite-sized courses” says Isobel Thomson, NALS chief executive.

Details are available from the NALS website.

So with letting agents trained there would be no need to employ an electrician to make checks! I don't think so somehow as when the first tenant gets electrocuted and the agent is taken to task there will then be a huge outcry and the agent will not have appropriate insurance cover. Just get the electrician in and get a clean bill of health and stop doing another mans job as we will soon have electricians doing the letting agents job which will pee off all letting agents no end.

This is a real stupid idea.
