Controversial licensing conditions for a city’s landlords have been changed following complaints from an industry group.
Liverpool council has modified the conditions in its selective licensing scheme following a review, which came about as a result of a letter from the Residential Landlords Association, which partnered the authority in the introduction of the system.
The RLA flagged that some of the conditions, as well as a data protection issue, needed changing; it was also unhappy about alleged delays in processing applications. The RLA also said the authority was presenting certain legal requirements as licence conditions, and that some conditions were not up-to-date.
A letter from the authority has also outlined concerns over a potential data protection issue regarding a document asking landlords to sign a declaration allowing the council to approach third parties for information.
The council has now reviewed its policy.
“Following this review some modifications have been made to the licence conditions to ensure that they are clear for landlords and also comply with all relevant legislation” says a council spokeswoman.
