Reports from the United States suggest that Airbnb, which has already created a revolution in short-lets, is considering asking house builders to construct homes with an extra room capable of being rented by its users.
Reports in online publications The Information and Business Insider suggest the idea is at its very earliest stages but shows how Airbnb is seeking to develop its business model.
Nick Papas from Airbnb told The Information that the platform was "continually experimenting with new things and we don’t have anything to share right now, but we have a few exciting things in the works."
A new team within Airbnb is called Samara, charged with blue-sky thinking on new forms of letting and accommodation design. According to the US reports it is exploring with architects “how people can think about owning a home and how it can be more flexible.”
