London lagging in terms of room rental returns, says website

Rents for individual rooms to let are rising fastest in Swansea, Bradford, Portsmouth and Swindon, with all of these locations seeing 11 or 12 per cent annual increases.

London is amongst the towns and cities seeing the least room rental growth in the last 12 months, up just one per cent in line with Belfast and West Bromwich

The West Midlands is even worse off - it has seen rents fall year on year, a decrease in one per cent overall, with Dudley down five per cent and Birmingham dipping two per cent.

The data comes from SpareRoom which says the cheapest room rents in one of the UK’s 50 biggest towns and cities are in Batley (£266), Bangor (£270) and Belfast (£272)

Basingstoke, Harlow and Milton Keynes are the areas seeing highest demand for rooms, with six people competing for every room available. In London, three people compete for each room, the website says.
