The Residential Landlords Association has listed key MPs in marginal constituencies who should be lobbied ahead of the March 8 Budget in a bid to win their support for the scrapping of some buy to let tax changes.
“We have pulled together a list of the marginal seats of Conservative and Labour MPs who we want members to target. In each of these constituencies there are enough landlords that can change the result of the next election” says the association.
One of the seats is Conservative-held Croydon Central where the sitting MP is housing minister Gavin Barwell – who has a majority of only 165 votes.
The RLA is urging its members and anyone who opposes the change to mortgage interest tax relief for landlords being introduced in April, to lobby or email or visit the MPs in the marginal seats it has identified.
“MPs in these seats are going to be very concerned about any potential issue in their constituencies that could lose them votes at the next election. Lets make sure that these MPs know that we will not stop without a fight, send them a message today and make your voice heard!” says the association.
The RLA list also includes some ‘safe’ seats which are held by MPs central to the government’s policies, including those held by Prime Minister Theresa May and Chancellor Phillip Hammond.
These are the 10 constituencies the RLA is targeting:
1. Corby;
2. Warrington South;
3. Peterborough;
4. Eastbourne;
5. Brighton Kemptown;
6. Tatton;
7. Runnymede and Weybridge;
8. Maidenhead;
9. Liverpool Riverside
10. Gower
“Only together can we make a difference. Please don’t leave it to others to visit on your behalf, as they may be leaving it to you” concludes the association.
