Local authority reveals its local Letting Agent of the Year

In an era when the relationship between local councils, letting agencies and landlords appears permanently fraught, there is good news from Sheffield - the local authority there has handed out its first awards to the private rental sector.

They were held to recognise the achievements of the many good private landlords in the city that provide high quality, safe rented homes in Sheffield.

Sheffield city council organised the sponsored event with Letting Agent of the Year and Private Landlord of the Year awards both being picked up by Peter Turkington, manager of PC Properties which has around 120 student and professional properties in the city.

“Given the number of excellent landlords and letting agents in contention, I was delighted and very proud to have been chosen to receive these very prestigious awards. I’m extremely grateful to not only the hardworking staff at PC Properties, but to everyone that voted for us” says Turkington.

“The Sheffield Landlord awards were a very successful event, and reflect how far we’ve come in recent years in building a positive working relationship between Sheffield City Council Private Housing Standards and the Private Landlord sector. As a consequence, we have seen significant improvement in not only the standard of accommodation, but equally important, the improved level of customer service” he adds.

Michelle Houston, Service Manager of Private Housing Standards at Sheffield City Council, says: “An increasing number of people are living in rented housing and it’s important that we work well with our local landlords. Most in the city are very good, and deliver a great service to their tenants. And that’s what we recognised.”
