Race row landlord calls in police after To Let boards vandalised

The controversial landlord who made provocative remarks about some tenants leaving ‘curry smells’ in his properties is now complaining to the police about alleged social media abuse and To Let boards being vandalised.

Fergus Wilson, widely regarded as Britain’s wealthiest buy to let landlord, is quoted in London’s Evening Standard newspaper that as saying that the boards in question are near his properties in Kent, and carry statements including “I am a racist ****” beneath a photograph of him; another board carries the message "Racist, homophobic prick".

Wilson is also complaining about an apparent YouTube video in which he is accused of being racist.

There was a widespread public backlash in response to Wilson’s views on which tenants he preferred and which he did not want in his properties; he has refused to retreat from them, instead saying they were no different from a landlord saying he didn’t want smokers or pet owners as tenants.

A Kent Police spokesman told the Standard: "Kent Police is aware of this issue and will be working to establish if any offences have taken place."
