The National Landlords Association and Residential Landlords Association have joined forces with Leeds city council to create a new accreditation system for the private rental sector.
The Leeds Rental Standard is an accreditation mark supported by the city council and aims, in the words of the authority, “to bring unity to landlord accreditation in the city.”
Membership of the scheme, primarily for landlords, involves benefits including discount on licensing schemes, the opportunity to be ‘self-regulating’ and be able to resolve tenant complaints without council involvement, the ability to access council housing officers for advice and guidance, and access to the city council’s Private Tenant Letting Scheme which can help find tenants for voids.
Membership also entitles landlords to advertise properties in the 'Leeds Homes' publication, allows free disposal of tenant-generated waste at specified civic amenity sites, and the ability to apply for a permit for residential parking zones to allow landlords who need regular access to the zone to park their vehicles.
