Police seek void rental properties to use in burglary 'stings'

Police in Yorkshire are on the look out for empty rental properties which could be used for ‘sting’ operations tackling burglaries in Sheffield after the summer.

The local force is seeking properties anywhere in Sheffield but in particular is focussing on the Hunters Bar, Broomhill, Crookes and Walkey.

Empty properties located partly or wholly on ground floors would be used to tempt would-be criminals, and the police stress this would require use of the accommodation for only a few days and nights with minimal disruption to agents and landlords.

Under certain circumstances they are able to offer a 'lay' rent for a period used and are very keen to work with landlords at single or multiple properties.

Police Sergeant Martin Simcock is happy to discuss details with interested landlords; if you’re interest in participating, email him on martin.simcock@southyorks.pnn.police.uk
