Legal & General – one of the country’s largest players in the burgeoning Build To Rent sector – has made a key hire from residential landlord Grainger.

Sebastian Balcombe joins as senior land and planning manager, working to extend L&G’s pipeline of over 80,000 new homes over the next five to 10 years.

These extend not only across BTR but also Build To Sell, retirement living, student accommodation and affordable housing.

Specifically, Balcombe is charged with acquiring and securing planning for medium-term development opportunities; he held a similar land and planning management role at Grainger.

“We believe this multi-tenure approach will not only continue to grow our housing capabilities successfully, but speed up the delivery of much needed new homes for the UK” says James Lidgate, chief executive of Legal & General Homes.
