Rent Smart Wales says it is “heartening” that there has been a substantial recent rise in the number of agents, properties and landlords licensed with the scheme.
It says over 177,000 properties, 87,000 landlords and some 2,916 agents are now licensed.
However, although the majority of landlords and agents in Wales are now fully compliant with legislation, the scheme says some continue to operate illegally.
“We are taking action to make sure that those who need to comply, do so, with fixed penalty notices of up to £250 being issued and prosecutions taken forward” the scheme says in its latest update.
“To date we have issued 185 Fixed Penalty Notices and taken 15 prosecutions for RSW offences.”
