An insurance firm has conducted research showing that not all landlords are heartless - in fact, quite the reverse.
The study by LV= General Insurance finds that some 62 per cent of landlords say they want their tenants to be happy in their property and 60 per cent want their renters to feel at home.
Meanwhile 42 per cent say they would do more than necessary to make sure their tenants are happy and 53 per cent say they regard it as crucially important to offer value for money on rent.
What’s more, 81 per cent even say they would consider offering tenants financial support if they found it difficult to pay their rent.
Of the renters surveyed, many suggested that UK landlords have an image for being unsympathetic and profit-driven, with 42 per cent of tenants feeling landlords don’t care about their tenants and a third feeling they lack empathy or understanding.
“The housing sector has evolved significantly in recent years, with renting fast-becoming a long-term reality for many people. Landlords value their tenants’ happiness and financial wellbeing, but this isn’t being translated to tenants” says Heather Smith, managing director of the LV= Direct Business.
