A lettings agency in Oxford has diversified into marketing car parking spaces as well as apartments and houses.

Scottfraser Summertown has told the Oxford Mail newspaper that this new side of its business has been growing steadily.

The newspaper claims that residents can earn up to £150 a month for letting out unused driveways or garages to commuters in the famously-crowded city. 

The agency tells the local press that while there has been predictable interest from commuters and businesses who need workplace parking, even some residents who need an extra space – especially if they live in one of the city’s permit-only streets – have also shown an interest in renting.

Scottfraser lettings manager Zoe Warwick says: “We’ve seen spaces in the city centre go for up to £150 a month [although] the average price has come down a little in recent years to around £120 due to more becoming available.

“We find it is generally people who come to Oxford from overseas who have the spaces to rent because they usually don’t wish to use a car while they are here.“

The newspaper says the YourParkingSpace app claimed 282 people used it to market places in the city, making an average of £1,360 in a year.
