Exclusive: Veteran lettings industry chief returns to Countrywide fold

Well known lettings industry figure John Hards is re-joining Countrywide as National Lettings Director with immediate effect.

He first joined Countrywide in 1994 with the acquisition of Nationwide and went on to lead the lettings business. He left Countrywide almost exactly a year ago, apparently to retire to Cornwall.

In the year he has been away from the company he has been working closely with ARLA, RICS and the Lettings Industry Council and he will retain these links “to ensure that Countrywide are at the forefront of regulatory change” according to a statement from the company to Letting Agent Today.

The statement says Hards’ appointment reinforces Countrywide’s commitment “to ensuring they have industry experts leading their teams to support the build back of the key sales and lettings business.”

Hards himself says: “It’s an exciting time to be coming back to a business I know so well . We are the biggest agent with the largest footprint. The people, network and complementary products are unrivalled. With the focus on ‘back to basics’ we can start to build momentum and challenge in this increasingly competitive market.”

And Paul Creffield, Group Operations Director at Countrywide, comments: “I have worked with John for many years and his lettings knowledge and experience is unrivalled.  I’m looking forward to working with John as we focus on our core sales and lettings business and restore business growth and market share.”
