Buy to let lender allows selfies and document photos to be used as ID

High-profile buy to let mortgage lender LendInvest says it’s going to allow applicants to prove their ID online via photographs.

It’s working with an ID verification service, Onfido, to allow applicants to upload a photo of one identity document such as a passport or driving licence to LendInvest’s application portal, along with a selfie photo of the applicant taken with their mobile phone.

“We are continually developing our own technology tools and systems in-house to make the borrower journey through our products simpler, faster and more efficient. Wherever it makes sense, we’ll always integrate these with other technology leaders’ complementary tools for the added benefit of our customers” explains Christian Faes, co-founder and chief executive of LendInvest.

The lender says this faster process directly alleviates one of the frustrations brokers are most vocal about when handling mortgage applications on behalf of their clients.

LendInvest launched its first BTL product with a digital application process in November 2017.
