Complaint over agency's 'misleading' multiple telephone numbers

A lettings agency has agreed to amend its website after a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority over its use of multiple telephone numbers.

The website for Hampshire Land and Lettings contained text which stated "Contact us on:" followed by six different landline numbers with different geographical prefixes.

Beneath the multiple telephone numbers, however, other text stated just a single address in Weyhill, Hampshire.

A complainant to the ASA suggested that the multiple numbers gave the impression that the agency had offices in several different locations. However, as this was not the case the complainant suggested the website may have been misleading.

A spokesperson for the ASA told Letting Agent Today: “Hampshire Land and Lettings agreed to amend their website to state that they worked in the areas listed but would not list specific locations alongside individual telephone numbers, which would give the impression that there were physical offices or branches in each of those locations. We agreed to close the case informally.”

Yet when Shelter claim every snowflake represents a homeless child without counting the number of snowflakes that fall, this isn't deemed misleading? 😂
