Agency takes green approach by committing to local climate campaign

A Plymouth sales and letting agency has taken a number of measures to help raise awareness of climate change in its local area.

Family-run Hindhead Property is backing Plymouth Live’s Change Plymouth Campaign, making changes and campaigning to help limit climate change.

The agency has collated protest banners, placards and signs for an awareness display in its window space usually dedicated to property adverts.

The firm closed its office last month so staff could take part in a climate strike and will be keeping banners on display until the end of October to maintain awareness.

Staff have embraced a number of eco-friendly measures, including limiting use of lights to use just four of 21 in the office. As well as saving electricity, the measure has halved the company’s electricity bill.

The agents have also swapped air conditioning for opening windows and set their computers to timers to limit unnecessary use of electricity.

They are even reusing birthday cards and using property cards as gift wrapping to save paper.

“We’re not going to change the world overnight, but as a business we can try and minimise our footprint,” Hindhead director Louis Orozco Lopez told Plymouth Live.

Agent Laura Browne added: “Even those who deny the climate emergency surely recognise all the changes we can make on a personal level will make a nicer environment for us all to live in.”
