Red Card for Red Light agent who ran a brothel rented from his firm

The head of a Hertfordshire lettings agency has pleaded guilty to managing a brothel, according to a statement from the police.

He’s been named as Sunil Mehta, 42, from Hemel Hempstead.

Since 2003 he and a colleague have run that town’s branch of Sure Sales and Lettings, described on its own website as “one of the largest and most pro-active independent agents” in the area.

It also boasts of “careful selection of staff … and simply put, an honest, reliable service.”

Mehta, along with 40-year-old Graziela McNamee, ran the brothel using an assumed name - Steve Denton - which allowed Mehta to rent a flat from his own company.

The brothel operated from that apartment from June 1 2016 until April 5 2017.

The police statement says Mehta also claimed back a single person occupancy allowance from the local Decorum borough council.

The police say the pair were arrested “as the result of a proactive investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary which culminated in a number of warrants in April 2017.”

They will both be sentenced at Luton Crown Court in June.
