‘Cleavage' leaflet withdrawn by agent after complaint to watchdog

A lettings agency has withdrawn a leaflet which featured a woman’s cleavage; the leaflet had been the subject of a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority.

The advertisement was from Clever Student Lets in Plymouth.

The ASA says that a leaflet for the agency, circulated in December last year, showed a woman’s face, shoulders and the top of her cleavage.

The text above the image stated “The Biggest in Plymouth” and featured an arrow pointing to the rest of her chest, which was covered by a fold in the leaflet.

Further text stated “The Biggest in Plymouth. Why not take a peek…”.

Under the fold, the photograph had been cropped and the text continued “…at our Clever Student Properties. With over 3000 rooms who says size doesn’t matter”.

The complainant to the watchdog challenged whether the ad was offensive and irresponsible.

“The advertiser provided an assurance that the ad had been withdrawn and we resolved the case informally” an ASA spokesman has told Letting Agent Today.

The agency has been asked for its comments.

On the basis they sent out a similar style male leaflet surely this is just some tongue in cheek fun. Surely the ASA have much bigger things to focus their energies on.

Not so clever on this occasion.
