The Residential Landlords Association and Gas Safe Register have joined forces to promote gas safety awareness in the private rental sector.
The new strategic partnership will promote the importance of using Gas Safe registered engineer.
Gas Safe Register is the official list of gas engineers who are qualified to work safely and legally on gas appliances. By law, anyone who comes to fix, fit or service your gas appliances, pipework and flues must be on the Gas Safe Register.
RLA chief executive Andrew Dixon says: “No-one can cut corners when it comes to gas safety, and it is important that landlords are confident the people they are hiring to carry out essential gas safety works in their properties are competent and trustworthy.
“This new partnership will help promote good practice to both landlords and tenants.”
Recent research published by Gas Safe Register revealed that a third of adults in the UK don’t carry out the necessary checks to ensure that their gas engineers are working legally.
And according to Jonathon Samuel, chief executive of the Gas Safe Register: “By law, all gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register, which replaced CORGI. Only engineers who are Gas Safe registered should be used to fit, fix or service gas appliances, and landlords should always check the front and back of the engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card.”
