A new free-to-download app called My Rent Rewards claims to allow tenants to save towards their rent when they shop.

The app, available on Apple and Android, can be used in some 200 stores; when they shop they will receive a proportion of the transaction amount as cashback towards their rent.

The funds go to a ring-fenced account dedicated to rent payment for private renters.

In addition, the app also has deals with seven major housing associations which handle some 250,000 homes.
