Give that agency a cigar! Winston Churchill’s apartment to let

A London agency has won the instruction for a particularly prestigious let - a four bedroom apartment in the capital, once home to former Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill.

Harrods Estates is letting the 3,962 square foot apartment in Pimlico, furnished or unfurnished, for £3,750 a week.

Sarah McIntyre, director of lettings at Harrods Estates, says: “Churchill famously quipped: 'I am easily satisfied with the best' and this beautiful property showcases the best in terms of location and elegance. The apartment is close to London’s seat of power, Westminster, whilst also offering a superb blend of historical style in a traditional setting.”

The property spans the ground and lower ground floor and is positioned directly opposite a large communal garden. There is a modern fitted kitchen but much of the apartment has retained its historical feature fireplaces, ceiling roses and ornate cornicing.

A blue plaque outside the white Stucco-fronted Regency building indicates that Churchill lived at this property on Eccleston Square from 1909 until 1913 whilst he was Home Secretary.

Two of his five children were born here; Diana arrived in 1909, followed by Randolph in 1911.

Harrods gets into Churchillian mood on its details of the property, saying it is easy to imagine “dinner parties hosted by Clemmie and Winston, serving the leader’s favoured seafood, accompanied by Pol Roger Champagne whilst Cuban cigar smoke fills the air of  the wood panelled dining room. Indeed, in the master bedroom with  its en suite bathroom, there is a beautiful dressing room where one can imagine Sir Winston donning his favoured Turnbull & Asser suits or slipping on his Peal & Co. monogrammed slippers.”

In terms of outside space, there is a private patio and terraces as well as communal gardens and a tennis court.
