New lettings agent qualification launched by landlords group

A new nationally recognised letting agent qualification is being launched by a landlord body.

The Managing Property and Residential Lettings Level 3 award is the equivalent of an A level for new and existing letting agents and property managers who want to develop their skills.

It’s being promoted by the National Residential Landlords Association.

A statement from the NRLA says that this is responding to the fact that agent qualifications are set to become mandatory soon, following a government announcement back in 2018.

The NRLA scheme consists of four units - preparation for letting; setting up and managing a tenancy; property standards; and ending a tenancy, covering areas including property law, financial planning, legislation changes and marketing.

The remote-learning course involves around 110 hours of self-study followed by a multiple-choice assessment – all included in an up-front cost.

There is also a higher qualification called the Managing Property and Residential Lettings Level 3 certificate.

This includes one additional unit on contractual relationship and business conduct, including the law of agency and data protection.

“Mandatory agent qualification is expected to be introduced imminently, so it is advisable prepare now. Our award and certificate qualifications will offer the perfect introduction to the industry for new agents and will refresh and update the knowledge of more experienced agents already doing the job” explains NRLA head of training and events, Kitty Speakman.

“Designed to be completed at your own pace, the courses offer a comprehensive overview of everything you need to know when it comes to running a successful lettings business.”

You can see more information on the course here.

Would be useful if NRLA can confirm it will meet new requirements, otherwise highly risky as you may find yourself taking another required one very soon once the U.K. agent bashing committee decides next wave of red tape
