A landlord has ended up with fines totalling over £90,000 after repeatedly ignoring a council’s selective licensing regime.
Stephen Ige pleaded guilty to knowingly letting three properties in the Brent area of north London without a licence.
He was ordered to pay a £25,000 fine for each of the unlicensed properties, £5,000 for failing to supply documents to the council when requested, and £10,763 in court costs to the council, totalling £90,863 including a victim surcharge.
Ige, who owns a number of properties in Brent, had previously been found to have illegally let out two other properties requiring licences.
He was fined £5,000 and warned to make sure he applied for property licences where required, but continued to ignore the law.

Yet again a fine for not holding a licence. No mention of any issues with his properties. Surely licensing is about property improvement and standards which can be measured without a licence?
And on appeal fines to be lowered to £3.50 as Brent excessively miscalculated their profit margins
