A council says it’s considering lending funds for improvement to landlords who “behave fairly and appropriately” - and buy into a licensing scheme.
Portsmouth city council is considering a five year plan which it claims will improve conditions for both renters and landlords.
Proposals also include stronger action to tackle anti-social behaviour via licensing and clampdowns, providing better information to tenants and landlords and “supporting: HMOs.
The details are merely for discussion at this point, and may not become council policy.
But a statement from the authority says: “Help for tenants and landlords that want to behave fairly and appropriately could be introduced with plans to provide more information and a review of accreditation.”
It goes on to say: “Accredited landlords with a good track record could be given loans for work on their properties which would improve the range and standard of homes available for rent.”
It is also considering financial help for tenants to pay their deposit.
