Police called to protest outside lettings company office

Todays other news

Police were called to a protect outside a lettings firm in Oxfordshire after a crowd picketed the office over a dispute involving a tenant.

The Oxford Mail reports that the tenant and her two young children were left without a future home when the John Charles Property Investment agency allegedly withdrew the offer of a property two days before they were due to move into a private property in Abingdon.

The campaign group leading the protest was Acorn, which has held protests at various agency offices across the country, sometimes involving police attendance.

No arrests were made at the Oxford incident, which took place in a business park in the city.

John Charles Property Investment is reported to have said that the tenant was rejected because of contradictory information on landlord and income references.

A spokesperson for John Charles Property Investments told the Mail: “The application … was rejected due to multiple inconsistencies, it was not due to fluctuating universal credit. An application from another prospective tenant has now passed internal assessment and fraud checks. The board can only make an assessment for tenancies based upon the evidence it is presented with.”
