A letting agency has appeared on a ‘name and shame’ list of companies which failed to pay staff the minimum wage.

Tetsuo Saisho and Olga Lucia Saisho, trading as Japan Letting Agency, at Ealing in west London, underpaid one it’s staff the total of £2212.09.

In total 191 companies – including big-name firms like John Lewis and Welcome Break – have been named for failing to pay the minimum wage, now called the National Licing Wage.

Nearly half of the breaches involved firms deducting pay from wages, for things like uniforms and expenses. Others failed to pay for all the time staff worked or paid the incorrect apprenticeship rate.

The National Living Wage is currently £8.91 an hour for workers over the age of 23.

The government website says it is clear many of the breaches were not intentional, but insists the minimum wage laws must ensure a fair day’s work was rewarded with a fair day’s pay.

“It is unacceptable for any company to come up short. All employers, including those on this list, need to pay workers properly” says business minister Paul Scully.

“This government will continue to protect workers’ rights vigilantly, and employers that short-change workers won’t get off lightly” he adds.
