Room renting PropTech service claims 350 sign-ups

New PropTech company Ministry of Rooms says its platform has 350 landlords and agents signed up in its first six weeks.

The property-tenant matching platform allows both sides of the transaction to converse via video app when a room becomes available. Neither side is charged for signing up to the site.

Ministry of Rooms claims more functionality than rival room renting sites.

It permits prospective tenants to search for house mates with similar interests to them. Individual tenants can form a group on the site and search for rooms or a property together.

Once a tenant has found a room he or she likes, they can use the website to check out the location for nearby amenities such as shops and transport links.

Site owner Saurabh Gupta spent years in rented rooms when he arrived in Britain two decades ago.

“By talking directly to the landlord, tenants can ask questions about the other tenants in the house, as well as anything they are wondering about the accommodation itself. This is achieved via the inbuilt chat messenger or via integrated video calling feature” says Gupta.

“It’s also possible to search for the nearest room for a particular location. This is particularly useful for overseas students attending university in the UK for the first time and without prior knowledge of the layout of the city or town where it’s based.”

Landlords are permitted up to five photographs and one video for each room. They can also store and reuse the same advert when the room becomes available again six months or a year later.
