Agency apologises following office protest by activists

A lettings agency has apologised after a campaign by activists about the condition of a rental property it manages.

Protesters outside the Oxford office of Chancellors showed photographs, apparently of severe mould and repair problems at a property in the city managed by the company.

Tenant Kyveli Vagner and her four children have been living in the £1,200-a-month house since December 2018; the family had been asking Chancellors to complete essential repairs to the property, including the mould.


The activists - from the Acorn group - now want £800 in compensation for the tenant.


The Oxford Mail website quotes Melany Roake, training manager at the company, saying: "I can confirm that Chancellors takes responsibility for the management of property to a suitable standard very seriously.

"We do so in line with regulation and industry best practices and are sorry that the tenant in this situation has had cause to raise their concerns via the Acorn group."

Acorn says: “Now they are finally beginning repairs to solve the damp and broken fixtures in the house, but Kyveli needs and deserves £800 compensation for the ill health and stress she has suffered."

    As anyone in PM can attest, it is the landlord not the agent who is responsible. If I was the agent, I'd do the work to ensure the landlord met their legal obligations, and if they didn't....sayonara
