Green With Envy? Agency switches to hybrids and electrics

Senior managers in the lettings and sales side of independent chain Spicerhaart are reducing their carbon footprint by taking up the offer of hybrid and fully electric company cars.

As existing leases come to an end, the first 50 staff have taken up the offer of an environmentally-friendly vehicle and some have installed a self-funded home charging point for plug-in vehicles as an investment in their homes too.

Mark Hurdle, Spicerhaart’s chief financial officer, says: “Our business is constantly looking towards the future to become more sustainable. We’ve added a number of new environmentally-friendly BMW and VW models into our company car fleet to help our staff reduce carbon emissions, taking advantage of significant tax savings in the process.

“Our ambition is to increase the number of fully electric and hybrid vehicles made available, as these become more viable in terms of range and cost, as well as the availability of public charging points.”

Helen Chatton, car fleet coordinator, adds: “We have gone above and beyond to offer our drivers a greater choice as to how they run their fleet vehicle so that drivers can really consider what is important to them in terms of the environment and running costs.”
