Civil servants and Trading Standards to brief agents on law change

Todays other news

Officials from the Welsh Government and the head of the National Trading Standards Estate and Letting Agent team are to address a major Propertymark conference next week.

Senior officials from the Welsh Government, Welsh Revenue Authority, Rent Smart Wales and The Property Ombudsman will address the Propertymark Welsh conference in Cardiff, as will NTSELAT senior manager James Munro.

He will provide updates on his team’s work and insights into the latest regulatory developments effecting the industry. Agents will also get to hear stories about those who got it wrong so they can look to avoid making the same mistakes and steer clear of the team’s ‘most wanted’ list.

Welsh Government officials will be covering aspects of the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 ahead of its introduction on December 1 which represents the biggest change in housing law the nation has seen for decades.

The Act will introduce several new requirements for landlords with the view of providing more support for tenants, meaning the importance for agents to and educate themselves around these changes is crucial and the Conference will provide the perfect opportunity to do so says Propertymark.

The Welsh Revenue Authority will talk about the changes to main residential rates and bands for Land Transaction Tax and Rent Smart Wales will outline itsaudit process for agents.

With the latest annual report shortly released by The Property Ombudsman, one of its most experienced adjudicators – Simon Humphreys – will provide an update on its trends and case studies which highlight issues they’re seeing in the industry.

Propertymark chief executive Nathan Emerson says: “I’m incredibly excited for this year’s Welsh Conference. Getting agents in front of such a high calibre of expertise is really what it’s all about.

“Our members are at the top of the profession and our events keep them that way. With lots of changes ongoing within the industry, we know how important it is to provide only the best quality speakers to provide crucial and to the minute insight.”
